Data Sources Unaccessible [Archive] - ATLAS.ti Forum

Please help! Data Sources Unaccessible [Archive] - ATLAS.ti Forum:  I was unable to access my primary documents. In the Primary Doc Manager, the first three primary documents are in red color while the others are in black. Those three primary documents are in red in all backup HUs, so I cannot reload them from anywhere. I am unable to access those first three PDs which are very important :( All codes are still in the code manager but all quotations disappear from the output as you can see from the message below :(
If anyone knows how to fix this, please help suggest me and I will very appreciate that. I have time limit in collecting data as a student so please let me know ASAP. I am looking forward to hearing from all of you. Thank you in advances :D

I think I solved the problem:

When you right klick on the document that doesn't open, click on Data Source Management. Then you'll have the following option, which is a quote from the Help Menu:

Reset Last Access Information
To avoid accessing the wrong document, ATLAS.ti memorizes the certain state (size, date, path) of a document each time it was successfully accessed.

If ATLAS.ti detects a deviation between this access information and the referenced file, it assumes that it has been edited with another software or that it has been replaced with another version.

Because such changes bear the danger of corrupting the alignment of quotations, loading is rejected.

However, in some situations everything might be in good order. If you know for sure that the current state of the document would not render any of the work done in the primary document, like quote creation and/or coding, useless, you may force ATLAS.ti to accept the modified document as a legal primary document’s data source: choose Documents/Data Source Management/Reset Last Access Information. This synchronizes the access information stored in the HU with the actual access info of the file. An example of an action that does not negatively affect a PD is adding text at the end of a data document.

Note: With this powerful option you can make files loadable that could detrimentally affect your work. If you detect misaligned quotations after you chose this procedure, you know you did something wrong. If this has happened, you should either leave the HU without saving or correct all misaligned quotations manually.

Some of you may remember  that I gave a TEDX talk in September. It all took place on the New Jersey shore which had recently been decimated by Hurricane Sandy. So it seemed reasonable to talk about living in Chaos...productively. Or as I titled it – Dancing with Shiva. As you might expect, our collective experience in Open Space was pretty central to my piece. I have included the URL. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly had fun.

RE: PDF mapping programs... wow...

Good morning,

I've gotten crazy deep into this text analysis stuff.   Another PhD student I met is going through like 30,000 documents. . . too crazy for me.  But if you are still exploring this link and PDFs will help.  I've been testing Atlasti and it's really cool. . . but explore if you want:

Send to EndNote

This is wicked cool, as I can search and search through World of Knowledge, Engineering Village, ProQuest, and even Google, and each one gives me the option to export the citations directly to Endnotes.  The first three will allow me to export the complete search.  Then I can select all in Endnotes, Update all the References ((watch out it usually will change formats and add the publisher but it uses the DOI which can be wrong and you'll see a completely new article coming in to replace what you found = new authors, date and issue => SKIP this!)), and Download all the Text files.  I have found they are not always available. . . Another trick I did was for those "not found" I create a group of them in Endnotes, select all and <copy formatted> into Word.  You should have it set to APA, as you get that format, or which ever you choose.

Once in word I <save as> <htm>, then open it into a Firefox browser and select each title to search in Google Scholar.  Endnote seems to only connect to selected databases in the library while Google gets them all and a few others.  So often I can find all the PDFs faster this way!

Then Endnote 6x converts all the PDFs to "author-year-title" format, while 7x allows you to select the PDF file names

attitudes and behaviours towards water use

This is from an academic list serve that I am on. I'm not sure in anyone here collaborates on Water use survey?  Or want to connect with more in Australia . .

From: Fostering Sustainable Behavior
Hi,

I am in the process of designing a national survey to investigate Social and cultural differences surrounding attitudes and behaviours towards water use, water saving, water sensitive design etc, as part of a broader study looking at social inequality and water sustainability.

As a result I am on the hunt for any existing studies, surveys and questionnaires exploring environmental sustainability in a social and cultural context.

Of particular interest are any surveys designed to explore areas such as demographics, ethnicities, class and social status, gender and migration. Also anything based in Australia.

thanks,
Paul

Now here's one I wouldn't miss: 3005 E Waters AveTampa, FL 33604.  It's for Sale by Owner and only has had the sign out front for a few days.  Maybe 3 miles from USF, as I pass it every day and ride about 5 miles total.  It's on the river, but a good 20 feet above the high water mark on a ridge.   A half-acre with a boat ramp and dock.   Big Oak trees and everything.

This one is owned by a bank and still empty:
2819 E Waters Ave Tampa, FL 33604, so nearly ½ price, just like this one:
7308 Park Dr Tampa, FL 33610, is in foreclosure, but look at the river view!

Opps, 10am time for me to get to work!

FYI FW: A few thoughts - and thanks - as we begin a leadership transition

He’s going back home:

From: Klasko, Stephen
Sent: Monday, August 12, 2013 10:43 AM
To: USFHealth Bulletin Email List
Subject: A few thoughts - and thanks - as we begin a leadership transition

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Nine years ago, I was afforded the honor of being named the dean of the College of Medicine and SVP at USF.  To say it has been a rewarding professional and personal experience for my family and me would be an understatement.  On September 9, 2013, I will start my new role as president of Thomas Jefferson University and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital System.  It is a point of pride for the president and me that USF's ascension as one of the premier entrepreneurial academic health entities has given us the visibility that allowed me to be sought after for this role.

Today we will enact the transition to Dr. Harry van Loveren as interim dean of the Morsani COM and Dr. Donna Petersen as SVP for USF Health.  Harry and Donna have been two of the reasons that we have been so successful and the president and the Board of Trustees have expressed confidence that we will not miss a beat.  At the same time, a search is underway, led by Dr. Holbrook and Dr. Sinnott, to find a "permanent" replacement for the dual roles that I enjoyed.  I will be available for the next three weeks to be helpful in any way that I can for that transition.

Since several people have asked what I am most proud of during my tenure here, I would offer this.

First, the ability to bring the campus together under USF Health with the great deans (all of whom I had the honor of hiring) in Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Medicine. There are very few places in this country that have been able to articulate and implement a model that strives for a single college of health as a high-powered team.  USF Health, in that regard, has become a model for the country.

Second, and I believe that those of you who went to MediFuture 2023 this year will appreciate this, no one talks about the future of health care in Tampa Bay without USF Health being at the center of the conversation.  That represents a seismic shift from when I began, when the region was defined by hospitals and other entities outside of USF.  The MediFuture theme of "Tampa Bay - Where Tomorrow's Healthcare Happens Today" began at USF Health and will continue with us at the center.  The USF Health 2.0 theme which positioned us as a statewide and national entity has served us well in our quest for national and international prominence.  CAMLS, SELECT with Lehigh Valley Health Network, The Villages, the USF-Byrd Institute, the HCA trauma network, the development of the heart institute and USF's role in the ascendance of TGH as a top hospital have all served to elevate the stature of USF and the region.

Third, I am most proud of our faculty, staff and leaders, some of whom were here before I arrived and some of whom we were fortunate enough to lure from other academic medical centers.  You all represent the DNA of the organism that is USF Health and I recognize that nothing we have attained collectively would have been possible without your individual commitment to excellence, passion, creativity and sacrifice.  It is the reason we will continue to prosper through whatever external changes occur in the healthcare environment and it is the reason that I am sure that when I return in a few years as a visitor, USF Health will only have grown in academic, clinical and research stature.

Finally, as a point of personal privilege, I want to thank the greatest boss I will ever have, the president of USF, Judy Genshaft.  She set a course for national excellence, promised she would support an entrepreneurial academic model and never wavered on that support.  It is a rare leader who can oversee a transformation as dramatic as ours with unmitigated support. Dr. Genshaft is that rare leader.  We also have been and continue to be blessed with an outstanding and committed Board of Trustees.  I have been through  three board chairs during my tenure — Mr. Dick Beard, Ms. Rhea Law and Mr. John Ramil — all with different styles, but all with a passion for USF and a belief in the importance of USF Health to the university, the community and the state.

So, thanks for allowing me to serve as your leader for the past nine years. And while I may have to root for the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers…I will always pull for USF Health to be THE leader for healthcare transformation in Tampa Bay and beyond.

Thanks.  Steve

The creativity of the Staff and Teens of Community Stepping Stones will once again be featured by
Hillsborough Community College Ybor Art Gallery, at the corner of Palm Avenue and 15th Street in Ybor City from July 8-31, 2013.  "Beautiful Beasties" features fantastical, dynamic sculptures made from recycled materials that represent the life cycles of nature's smallest aquatic creatures: phytoplankton and zooplankton. Frequently considered the base of the food chain, phytoplankton also produces half the oxygen on the planet. Much controversy has arisen among oceanographers who have observed that population of microscopic flora and fauna has declined significantly in recent years, due in large part to pollution and climate change. The artists have created a stunningly beautiful and eerie aquatic environment filled with huge creature not normally seen by the human eye.

SCIENCE=ART Learning Program:
"Beautiful Beasties"

As part of a Tampa Bay Estuary Program mini-grant, CSS teens have been learning about the microbial world of water. USF microbiologist, Dr. Bridgette Froschke taught classes and conducted two field exercises which included Bay water testing in a professional lab. "Teens who six months ago couldn't tell you what phytoplankton was, can now explain photosynthesis. Now they can use their creativity to access the wonder of scientific processes," says Sigrid Tidmore, Executive Director. Even the show's name alludes to science: Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, considered the father of microbiology, called microorganisms "beasties" when he first saw them in 1654.
The show is free, although donations to our program are gratefully accepted.

Digital Photography Recovery

PhotoRec worked and is for FREE !: PC Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review:
PhotoRec worked and is for FREE !
In reply to DavidSvensson, Jan 17, 2012
I used PhotoRec
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
This recovered each video file as two separate MOV files, one large followed by one small. The large file is the actual video and sound, while the small file is the header.
To make these two files into a single MOV file (which can be played) in Windows use:
1. Start a console window (Start - Run, then enter "cmd")
2. In the console window go to the correct directory (for example C:, followed by cd directory)
3. Enter the command:
type small.mov big.mov > video.mov
Where small.mov and big.mov are the recovered files, and video.mov is the desired output file.
Alternatively use a hex editor sich as HxD (available for FREE from http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ ) to merge the files.
BTW, make sure to test play the output file before erasing anything.

PhD. Degree

I recently was watching this Ted-Talk video:

and it reminded me of where I started: Walt Disney's Dreamers and Doers: AWARD WINNER 1985: Where I described a City of the Future in such detail and passion that you can feel and see how people "live with nature" using the advanced "technologies to facilitate" the mutual support and co-evolution of the environment and the society.   In his TED-Talk above I found the conclusion appropriately powerful:
Here in Tampa we try to stay in touch with the necessity and inspiration of a relationship to water for a more sustainable Florida . . .  The City of the Future, is where people live with nature and use technology to facilitate that living . . . Where people take better care of the water, appreciate the value of water, returning the book of water back to the library of the river.

What is so stunning for me now, is that I am still trying to define my own PhD. Degree as if I could ever do any better than this 1980 original:
The Doctor's Degree will seek to show the validity of this "hypothesis:" Life, through evolution, seeks to unify matter and energy into more concentrated complex forms to create more of these energies.
Maybe I need to get some way to chat about this with him in detail . . .

House Shopping

I have received hundreds of questions about purchasing a house in Tampa.  While working for Hillsborough County I inspected a lot of them and reviewed construction plans for sub-division permitting.  The biggest issues I found:
  1. Flooding
  2. Cheap construction
For flooding in Florida, the design and permitting only REQUIRES that the road is “passible” during a flood.  This means that with the worst 100-year storm that there is a 20’ passing lane for fire trucks when the area floods.  Thus, never consider property where the front door step or yard is LOWER than the road.  Often this will occur when there is a wetland or conservation property behind the lot.  These areas are designed to retain the flood stage.  They do have a pop-off, however the permitting laws only require the flood stage is reduced within 24 hours, AFTER everything floods.

Cheap construction include composite materials off-gassing formaldehyde and Chinese wallboard.  Many subdivisions filled with the exact same houses are mass produced with inferior products.  This results in leaky roofs, defective appliances, and a multitude of repair costs.  Thus, when shopping in Florida, I personally would not look at any home less than 10 years old (1930-1980 is best).  I prefer the older construction since these homes were built by competent contractors, not minimum wage laborers found building today.  Either way be sure to hire a private inspector, beyond the inspections paid for by the mortgage company.

Searching for a house can be a challenge too.  Having the right tools can save hours:
1.       Start with Google maps
b.      Get into the street view and check out the house and neighborhood
2.       Go to the Zillow to get an idea about prices
a.       Start with the whole neighborhood here, by entering a zip code
b.      Then get a good look at the neighbors
c.       This works for finding rentals too
3.       Now you are ready to get to business with the County Property Appraisers, click the start link at bottom of the page
a.       This is great, the left margin allows you to look up addresses, the map tools on top gets into the GIS map
b.      Click on the property record on right and you can look at everything
c.       Including the previous sales price, the taxes paid
d.      Square foot for all rooms, construction materials, year built
e.      Key on this listing is the owner: FIRST MORTGAGE CORPORATION OF WINTER HAVEN
f.        THAT means this house is owned by a Bank, so only offer 50% of the asking price.

Remember the house investment is only good if you can sell it later.  An easy bike ride to school or convenient shops and restaurants are important.  Avoid rental areas and busy streets.  Also know that home owners associations can restrict your property use.  Like Tampa Palms stopped a family from building a child's tree house, while the City of Tampa requires a permit to paint your house or put up a fence.  Course Tampa Palms and many places wont let you put up a fence and will limit the colors to paint your house!!!

If you have any other questions ask me.  I know a great inspector or two and would be happy to get you the flood maps!
